Imperfect mannequins for Russian retailers
The State Duma made a proposal to oblige women's clothing stores to install mannequins, the parameters of which correspond to the average size of Russian women, the RT network reports. This appeal is addressed to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.
The author of the initiative was the infamous deputy Vitaly Milonov. In his opinion, non-ideal mannequins should correspond to the Russian sizes from the 46th to the 48th, and their number should be set at the level of at least 50% of all available in the store.
Marketers believe that by expanding the size range of mannequins, it will be possible to reach a wider segment of consumers. However, representatives of the business community warn that any laws affecting the activities of retailers should be considered with caution.
Over the past years, attempts have been made all over the world to put excessive thinness out of fashion. In 2017, a law was passed in France, according to which models must provide a health certificate with a body mass index to the agency. So, for example, with a height of 180 centimeters, the girl's weight should be at least 57 kilograms. A similar law is already in force in Spain, Israel and Italy. Some world-famous clothing brands have also joined the fight against unhealthy beauty standards, which began to demonstrate products in their stores on large mannequins. At the same time, in most Russian and foreign retail chains, items of the 40th and 42nd sizes are still displayed in halls and showcases.
