Ratings of global retail chains
Spanish El Corte Inglés not only surpassed other European countries in the rating of annual turnover among department stores for 2017, but also rose from fourth to third place in the world ranking.
The list of the largest retail chains in the world is headed by the American Macy's, with 21,985 million euros, followed by the North American Kohl's, with 16.903 billion.
The third place is occupied by El Corte Inglés, with 15.935 billion euros. It is followed by Sears (USA), which was in second place last year, with 14.784 billion, and Nordstrom (USA) with 13.399 billion euros. Thus, the Spanish chain is the only one not from the USA among the top five largest chain stores, according to IADS.
At the European level, the Spanish network, headed by Jesus Nuño de la Rosa, has maintained its leadership in terms of annual turnover for the second year. It is being overtaken by the British commercial network Marks & Spencer with 12.203 billion euros. In third place is the British company John Lewis with 11.639 billion; the fourth place is occupied by the French Galeries Lafayette with 4,500 billion. Debenhams (Great Britain) completes the top five with 2.663 billion.
El Corte Inglésin the last fiscal year raised its gross operating indicators by 7.4% (Ebitda), to 1.054 billion euros, while net total profit reached 202 million euros, which demonstrates an increase of 24.9% relative to the last budget year. The turnover figures mentioned above are at the level of 15.935 billion euros, which is 2.8% more than in the previous year, according to the annual reports and statements published on February 28, 2018.
In addition, the profit increased, which amounts to 412 million, which is 28.9% more than last year, and the volume of investments reached 425 million euros. A significant part of these investments is related to projects, renovation and renovation of shopping centers, as well as the improvement of technologies and installations in order to increase the share of online business.
Representatives of the company emphasize that the efforts made to develop online commerce and the focus on multi-channel business allow us to maintain the positive dynamics of the past years, with an increase in orders by 32% and turnover by 26% in the 2017 budget year.
