National standard of school uniforms

Within the framework of the Light Industry Forum of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, which was held on November 29 and 30 in Ivanovo, a round table "Development of a national standard of school uniforms" was held.

The health and well-being of a student directly depend on the clothes in which children spend up to 8 hours a day for 170 days a year. That is why the requirements for school uniforms should be higher than for the rest of the clothes. A poor-quality form can cause skin diseases, allergies, colds and have other more serious consequences. The introduction of a national standard of school uniforms as a regulatory mechanism can protect the market from dangerous products. What exactly should the document regulate, what new standards are needed for, whether they will lead to a rise in the price of uniforms and whether parents will save them from buying low-quality school uniforms for their children, this and much more were discussed at the round table by industry experts. Experts from federal authorities, education, the parent committee, research institutes, and industry enterprises took part in the discussion.

The introduction of school uniforms is also an effective tool for the development of the country's light industry: capacity utilization, product range improvement and modernization. On the part of manufacturers of textiles for school uniforms and clothing companies specializing in this range, the development of standards has become a significant aspect that allows assessing the safety of this type of textile products. The opinion of educational institutions and parents is also extremely important in this matter. They are primarily interested in making school uniforms comfortable and safe for schoolchildren. During the round table, parents supported the importance of developing criteria for clothing for schoolchildren as a guideline when choosing school uniforms and noted the need to implement the standard without increasing the cost of products.

School uniforms are a necessary element of the educational process both from the point of view of the business style of students and from the point of view of ensuring the comfort of children. That is why mechanisms for monitoring the quality of school uniforms are so necessary. In this regard, it is advisable to continue the inspections carried out by Roskachestvo, as well as to protect the market from the supply of counterfeit products. The formation of a National standard of school uniforms can regulate this process. This standard should include, first of all, requirements for fabrics, since it is according to them that the most egregious cases of violations of hygiene standards have been identified, and it is the fabric that plays a key role in ensuring the comfort of schoolchildren.
