The Russian designer created a bag from beer waste

As part of a revolutionary new partnership, British startup Arda Biomaterials and sustainable brand BEEN London have released the first bag of its kind.

The snakeskin bag is made of New Grain, a new material derived from beer waste collected at London's Beer Mile in Bermondsey.

New Grain is a unique next—generation material that contains neither animal components nor plastic.

Zhenya Mineeva, founder of BEEN London, believes that this bag is just the beginning of what the brand can achieve in cooperation with Arda.

The bag Millais, which is a modification of the bestseller BEEN, became the first product to use New Grain.

New Grain, called the "extraordinary new generation material", is a byproduct of the brewing and wine industry.

Using a source rich in plant protein, Arda, as a technology company, can replace plastic and mimic the collagen structure of the protein that makes up skin — in close collaboration with breweries to offer a truly scalable material for various industries.

By avoiding the use of animal skins, New Grain significantly increases the efficiency of resource use, while achieving unique qualities that are unattainable when working with animal skins. The fabric can be customized in pattern, thickness, color, elasticity, flexibility, flavor and more.

In addition, the production process generates 97% less CO2 emissions compared to traditional leather and avoids the harmful tanning process, which contributes to a cleaner environment without microplastics.

The bag will be the first item in an upcoming accessories collection that will include more bag styles, as well as wallets and laptop cases, which are scheduled to be released later this year.

Brett Cotten, CEO of Arda, is confident that this project will be an important milestone for the company. He is also pleased that Arda will be able to continue its collaboration with BEEN London, moving to new heights in the field of sustainable fashion.

This story is a vivid example of how innovation and concern for the environment can lead to the creation of new, unique and environmentally friendly products.
