Changing the leader in the cosmetics market

For many years, the first place in the segment of cosmetic retail has been held by the network «L'Etoile». According to the agency INFOLine, obtained as part of the annual rating INFOLine Retail Russia top-100, at the end of 2018, the first place was taken by the network "Magnet Cosmetics", for the first time in 15 years having overtaken the long-term leader in terms of revenue.

 

Revenue from sales of "Magnet Cosmetics" increased by 16% last year, reaching 91.6 billion rubles. Revenue grew much slower «L'Etoile», amounting to only 3% (82.5 billion rubles). The third place belongs to the network «Rive Gauche», whose indicators increased by only 1% (37 billion rubles).

 

 

Experts explain this by the fact that perfume and cosmetic chains that have been operating on the market for a long time have passed the stage of active growth. According to Mikhail Burmistrov, CEO of INFOLine Analytics, at the moment they are focusing on profitability: optimizing inefficient retail space. And the main networks developing in the drogeri market are just at the stage of aggressive growth. So in 2018, «Magnet» opened 731 new stores, bringing their number to 4,500.

 

 

According to analysts' forecasts, in 2019, sales of cosmetics, perfumes and household chemicals in specialized retail may grow by 12.5%, to 869 billion rubles.
