Measuring in a new way
The size and type of the figure are the key parameters of the buyer in the fashion industry. But anthropometric indicators are variable, their change is influenced by many different factors. For the production of clothing, it is extremely important to have accurate data, and modern technologies such as 3D scanning of the body, which provides standardized measurements, help in this. We talked to Maxim Fedyukov, CEO of the company "Texel", who developed the unique 3D scanner Texel Portal.
– Texel Company » (resident of Skolkovo and Technopolis «Moscow») together with the RSPO, she took the initiative to conduct digital measurements of the population of the Russian Federation to create a unified information and analytical system with an up-to-date typology of bodies in three-dimensional form. Maxim, please tell us what reasons prompted you to take such a step?
–«Texel» has been in existence since 2014 and is engaged in development and research in the field of 3D scanning, modeling, computer vision and machine learning (neural networks and similar approaches). Our equipment and software, which has no analogues in the world, allows you to measure more than a hundred dimensional features of a person based on his 3D model. Since the tasks of the light industry of the Russian Federation require regular measurements of the population in order to clarify the standard sizes, as well as for the correct formation of the size slide of domestic brands, in this direction we cooperate with the RSPO and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in fact proving that the technologies and developments of the company "Texel" can be used for the most diverse tasks. We are motivated by the desire to assist the domestic industry and introduce our developments directly into the industry.
– Could you, for our readers, who are not all thoroughly versed in the intricacies of clothing production technology, briefly describe how the process of designing clothes and making patterns takes place, how important are the population measurement data?
It is necessary to start from the starting point of collecting the necessary data. Our 3D scanner allows you to get the parameters of the human body in just 30 seconds, while being very mobile and easy to operate. This opens up ample opportunities for collecting statistics on the average size and parameters of people of any age category in all regions of the country. Based on the collected data and using our own machine learning algorithms, we form an average 3D model of a person in each group, using which manufacturers can more accurately form sizes and design clothes. Such 3D models can also be imported into computer-aided design (CAD) systems, where garment production technologists, based on the parameters of the resulting figure, cut patterns and design clothing models based on them. Thus, the resulting wardrobe items of each size have the most comfortable fit on the figure, because measurements of real people were used in the design.
