Eco-friendly shoes from Dr. Martens
In April 2023, the British shoe brand Dr. Martens, together with the carmaker Jaguar Land Rover and other investors, invested in the manufacturer of recycled leather Gen Phoenix. This company specializes in recycled leather for the transportation industry, in particular, car seat covers.
The first collection was not long in coming. Last month, the Dr. Martens brand released a new Genix Nappa collection, all models of which are made of recycled leather. The line itself was developed by the company in support of sustainable development and environmental conservation.

The three products included in the new capsule were made from recycled leather: recycled industrial scraps. The technology of creation is simple: the waste from the leather industry is split into fibers, which, with the help of recycled water, turn into a high-quality, and therefore durable, secondary material. At the same time, the share of processed raw materials in it is 50%.
"We choose materials very carefully, and when using leather scraps, the durability of the product is not lost," comments Arguedas Schwank, head of the brand's sustainability department at Tuse Mekik, who previously held similar positions at Burberry and Gap.
