Athleisure in the past. Meet Yakleisure

While the whole world is amicably switching to fast fashion synthetics, some brands offer a non-standard approach to clothing for sports and outdoor activities. For example, things made of wool... Yakov.

Today it is not difficult to choose clothes that will give you a stylish sporty look. There are countless numbers of cheap leggings and tops made of synthetic materials. According to the NPD Group, outdoor clothing currently accounts for 24% of all clothing industry sales, and the segment is expected to grow. But how long will you be able to wear synthetics produced by fast fashion brands, and will it be comfortable enough, especially considering the fact that such clothes should fit snugly to the skin?

A few years ago, the founder of the Kora brand, Michael Kleinworth, was traveling through the Eastern Himalayas when he discovered the incredible properties of yak wool. Being a conservationist, a hardy athlete and an interested researcher of the Himalayas, Michael created a social company that produces base layer clothing that is soft, durable, meets the requirements of environmental friendliness and sustainability.

Why exactly yak wool? It is warmer and more breathable than merino wool, does not cause itching, effectively absorbs moisture and allows sweat to evaporate to protect the body from overheating. Yak wool has an antibacterial effect, thanks to which the fabric smells fresh longer, and offers built-in UPF 40+ sun protection.

The company Kora plans an annual purchase of all wool from the cooperative of nomadic families on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, which will give a stable income to more than 90 families. Yaks will not suffer during the production process, since their wool is already harvested every year during molting.

An interesting option for those who appreciate not only convenience, but also durability and environmental friendliness of clothing.
