Meeting of the Committee on Chemical Fibers and Threads
October 23, 2018 in Soyuzlegprom held a regular meeting Committee on Chemical Fibers and Threads, Textile Products for Technical Purposes. The meeting was attended by members of the Committee, representatives of Russian Union of Chemists and invited experts.
The situation in the sub-sector is characterized by high (over 60% of consumption)import dependency. Moreover, among the supplier countries are mainly those that process Russian oil and gas into a variety of petrochemical products. The participants of the meeting noted the need for a systematic approach to the plans for the development of related industries of light industry and the industry of chemical fibers and yarns, the implementation of relevant roadmaps. To do this, it is important to carry out the "docking" of appropriate strategies, to work out the raw material balance, to coordinate the production and sales plans of enterprises.
The participants also stressed the need to expand the composition of The Committee on Chemical Fibers and Yarns of Soyuzlegprom, including representatives of The Russian Union of Chemists, as well as leading manufacturers of chemical fibers and processors. Such a format of interaction will promote more efficient use of chemical products, expand opportunities for communication between producers and consumers, deepen intersectoral ties and increase the effectiveness of intersectoral cooperation.
Currently, there are practically no real joint projects in related industries. One of the few examples of the deep interconnection of such projects is PJSC KuibyshevAzot, which unites both petrochemical enterprises and enterprises of subsequent processing, including textile production.
There is still no certainty about the Ivanovo polyester complex, the construction of which has been postponed for a long time. Primary fiber PET is not produced in Russia, which is necessary for the manufacture of high-quality textile fibers and yarns. The need for these products is provided mainly by supplies from China, and the stagnation of the Ivanovo project is of concern.
As a result, today domestic textile manufacturers are forced to import most types of fibers and yarns that are either not produced in Russia or are produced in small volumes.
In 2018, there were certain problems with the supply of polyester fibers and yarns from Belarus. Many domestic consumers reported that Belarusian suppliers sharply raised prices by up to 30%. Russian textile enterprises are unable to purchase raw materials at a high price due to weak solvent demand in the final consumption sector.
On the other hand, due to the lack of stable trends in domestic demand and low consumer solvency, Russian manufacturers of fibers and yarns direct the entire increase in output to export.
It is planned to continue discussing these issues within the framework of the Business Program of the International Chemical Industry Forum.
