Russia and Brazil: mutually beneficial cooperation

On June 21 in Moscow, the president SoyuzlegpromAndrey Razbrodin met with Vice PresidentBrazilian Union of Textile and Light Industry Entrepreneurs (ABIT)  by Luiz Arthur Pacheco de Castro

The meeting took place in the program of the official visit to Russia of the Brazilian delegation headed by the President of the country.Michel Temer. The parties discussed the situation on the international market of textiles and light industry products, and noted the relevance of information exchange between the industry unions of both countries.

A.V. Razbrodin and Mr. Pacheco de Castro expressed confidence in the need for joint study of promising areas of trade and investment and technological cooperation between textile complexes of both countries, including exploring the possibilities of joint production of high-quality equipment for light industry.

Brazil occupies, according to the most conservative estimates,30% in the global total exports of cotton, cotton yarn and their processed products. Cooperation in this area is especially important for Russia, in which cotton remains an acute shortage of raw materials after 1991. It is also characteristic that in In Brazil, as in the RF, the growth of wool production is constrained by the low quality of raw materials of its own production. In the 90s of the last century Brazil has become a world leader in the production and export of blue denim and canvas fabrics. Today it is one of the leaders in the production and export of clothing, underwear, demi-season and sports shoes: 5thplace in terms of production of light industry goods, 2nd – in terms of production of denim fabric and denim products and 3rd – for the production of knitwear.

"The most important factor of similarity (at least geographically) textile complexes of both countries   this dispersion industry enterprises almost throughout the countries. At the same time, the main raw material base is concentrated in about a third of the territory.

Mr. Pacheco de Castro

As for the volume of mutual trade in textile products, they are extremely insignificant. According to the data of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, the share of these products in the value of Russian exports is less than 0.5%: in the 1st quarter of this year, the main deliveries were in the commodity group63 («Other finished textiles, sets; clothing and textiles») – $15.8 thousand.

In the value of Brazilian exports to the Russian Federation, the share of textile products is about 4%. In the 1st quarter, the largest indicators were noted in the commodity groups.64("Shoes, gaiters and similar products") – $8,7 million, 54 ("Chemical yarns, analogues of chemical textile materials") – $239thousand53(«Other vegetable textile fibers, paper yarn and paper yarn fabrics») – $221.4 thousand; 59 («Textile materials, impregnated, coated or duplicated; textile products for technical purposes») – $142.1thousandand for the mentioned group$63 118.8thousand
