RFID experiment with fur coats is not expanding yet
Russia and the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have not yet decided how the experiment on mandatory labeling of fur products with radio frequency (RFID) tags can be expanded.
This topic is being discussed with Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, but a decision has not yet been made.
«At the level of the five countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, there is no final agreement yet on which groups of goods to further extend these ideas and the operation of the mechanism for traceability of goods and labeling","said Deputy Finance Minister Ilya Trunin on July 5, speaking in the State Duma.
He also noted that the experiment with fur coats exceeded the expectations of officials. According to Trunin, retail sales of fur products subject to labeling for the first ten months of the pilot project, that is, from September 2016 to June 2017, increased by 6.5 times year-on-year. At the same time, legal imports of goods increased by 138%, the Deputy Finance Minister added.
According to the first deputy head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia Ruslan Davydov, the introduction of labeling of fur products allowed to whitewash the market six times in 2016.Davydov also stressed that customs payments in the fur sector of the market increased by 40%.
Mandatory labeling of natural fur products on the territory of the EAEU member states of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan has been introduced since August 12, 2016. Chipping of fur coats was introduced as a means of combating low-quality and illegal products.
At the moment, the project on labeling fur products has been extended until the end of 2018.
