May 27, 2019, at 15:40, in The RANEPA School of Design will host an open lecture by the editor of New York Times Magazin Fred Richin on the topic "Bending the frame: photography and social change".

How are photographs and images used in the modern world to positively influence society? Can a photo prevent a negative event, and not just capture it? This and other questions will be answered by Fred Richin.

Fred Richin is an honorary member of the International Center of Photography and Professor of Photography at New York University. He is the author of three books on the future of visualization: "Our Own Image: The Coming Revolution in Photography" (1990), "After Photography" (2008) and "Bending the Frame: Photojournalism, Documentary and Citizenship" (2013). Fred Richin worked as a photo editor for the New York Times magazine and executive editor of Camera Arts. Fred Richin created the first multimedia version of the New York Times. Together with photographer Gilles Perez, he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for the 1996 documentary "Bosnia: Unclear Roads to Peace". Richin has curated numerous photo exhibitions, including "Indefinite Grace: Photographs by Sebastian Salgado", "Contemporary Latin American Photographers" and "The Bend of the Frame". He also acted as a co-founder and director of PixelPress, an organization that implements humanitarian projects, for example, a project to combat polio worldwide and a youth project "Goals of the New Millennium". Richin writes for many publications and teaches at the International Center of Photography and at the City University of New York (CUNY).
 

The lecture will be held in English with consecutive translation. Admission is free, subject to mandatory registration.
