The Met Gala is under threat of disruption

On the eve of the Met Gala scheduled for May 6, 2024, yes, it was supposed to take place today, the Condé Nast employees union announced its readiness for a strike. This jeopardizes the holding of one of the most prestigious fashion events of the year, organized by the editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.

A strike could disrupt the carefully thought-out plans for the Met Gala, which should be attended by stars of the first magnitude. The cost of tickets for the event is $75,000 per person.

The Condé Nast trade union, which represents the interests of employees of Vogue and other publications of the company, has been negotiating with the management for a long time about concluding a new employment contract. The parties were unable to come to an agreement on a number of issues, including wages, benefits and job security.

In the run-up to the Met Gala, the union has stepped up its campaign. Condé Nast employees post on social media with the hashtags #CondeNastStrike and #MetGalaStrike, as well as hold pickets outside the company's offices.

The union warned that it is ready for "all necessary actions" to achieve its demands. This may mean not only a strike, but also other measures, such as boycotting Condé Nast products or refusing to cover company events.

The situation around the Met Gala remains tense. It is unclear whether the parties to the conflict will be able to come to an agreement before the start of the event. If the strike takes place, it will be a serious blow to the reputation of Condé Nast and Anna Wintour.
