How much money has the Met Gala raised this year?

According to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, it has raised about $26 million this year. This is 4 million more than last year, and more than twice as much as was collected a decade ago, in 2014. This amount exceeds all the philanthropic events organized in support of many other cultural institutions in the city. By comparison, the New York City Ballet's last fall gala raised just under $4 million, and the American Museum of Natural History gala brought in $2 million. Even other events at the Metropolitan Museum of Art cannot be compared with this fashion evening - the gala concert "Art and Artists" raised $ 4.4 million last year.

Since 1999 Anna Wintour, chief Editorial Officer of Condé Nast and editor of Vogue, is working to turn the gala into an extremely profitable event, merging celebrities, sponsors and brands.

Ticket prices for the gala evening have increased dramatically. This year, the individual ticket was $75,000 — compared to $50,000 last year and $35,000 in 2022. Tickets for the 2015 gala evening cost exactly one third of their current cost. But if your name is Zendaya, you might be lucky: celebrities usually don't buy tickets themselves. Rather, brands such as Chloé or Tory Burch buy whole tables worth from 350,000 dollars and compete to see who will dress the biggest names. For these brands, online and media attention is a strong advertising opportunity.
