Amazon has patented an augmented reality mirror

In the near future, shopping on the Internet will become much easier: as Geek Wire, the company Amazon has patented the world's first technology augmented reality mirrors.

Augmented reality has recently stepped from the pages of science fiction books and films into our lives. And if until now the main application of such technologies has been the sphere of interactive entertainment, the AR mirror patented in Amazon is a purely practical thing. Its main purpose is to help in the selection of clothes. The user can choose an outfit from the catalog, and the smart mirror will definitely put it right on the future owner. At the same time, not only the appearance of the clothes should be imitated, but also its physical properties, the crease of the fabric, shine, lightness, the formation of folds, and so on. The technology allows you to consider a thing under different conditions and offers several options for background, lighting and even makeup.

The mirror itself is a complex system of cameras, projectors, displays, lights and mirrors that take pictures of a person from several angles and show his image on the display. From above, in real time, you can overlay any layer of pixels that will be displayed on the user.

The project's investors promise that all the objects on the screen will look like real ones. Recently, the company's specialists have developed a smart camera that could pick up a person's clothes, hairstyle or makeup, so that the necessary base Amazon has. Unfortunately, it is not yet known when at least the first prototype of the mirror will be released, but many retail chains have already adopted the technology. The prospect of getting rid of vast and expensive retail spaces, leaving only small fitting rooms in which everyone can pick up an unlimited number of things, is very tempting.
