Vans sues Primark
This week, the world-famous sports brand Vans filed a lawsuit in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, against the fast fashion chain Primark, accusing it of copying its style. Representatives of Vans claim that Primark produces «fakes»iconic brand models that «intentionally copy Vans shoes», and thus violates the trademark.
The Primark Skate High Top and Primark Skater Low Top models were hit, which are strikingly similar to Vans Sk8-Hi and Vans Old Skool, respectively. In their lawsuit, Vans claim that products manufactured and sold by Primark "intentionally include distinctive elements of Vans' trademarks, including the trademark Vans Side Stripe, rubberized strip the sole is white, soft ruffled lapels at the ankles and visible seams of contrasting color.
The Irish retail chain Primark, mainly popular in the United Kingdom, has recently started promotion in the American market. The chain has been developing in the USA since 2015 and has since opened nine outlets across the country. The National Retail Federation has already included Primark in the list of the 100 fastest growing retailers in the United States. It is not surprising that the network has attracted the attention of its direct competitor.
It is worth noting that Primark is no stranger to lawsuits and scandals. A few years ago, shoppers in Swansea, Wales, discovered SOS notes sewn into clothes. There were suggestions that this was done by factory workers in poor conditions, but Primark denied these statements and reported that the notes were not real.
