The Russian fashion market – will there be a new phase of growth?

On February 20–On February 21, within the framework of the international exhibition CPM–Collection Premiere Moscow, the retail technology forum Russian Fashion Retail Forum will be held for the 20th time. The theme of the season is the Russian fashion market on the threshold of a new phase of growth: what measures should be taken by Russian fashion retail representatives to take advantage of all the advantages of the upcoming changes in the economy?»

On February 20, the forum will traditionally be opened by Reinhard Depfer, President of the European Council for the Export of Fashionable Clothing (EFTEC). He will talk about the development of clothing exports from the EU-28 member states to Russia and will outline the list of leaders and outsiders by the end of 2017.

The key report of the session for top managers of the industry on the same day will be presented by the CEO of Fashion Consulting Group Anna Lebsak-Kleimans. She will announce the results of 2017 in manufacturing and retail, as well as outline the main trends of the fashion business for the coming year.

"In 2017, the assessment of changes in one's well-being showed positive dynamics and approached the pre-crisis level. This is reflected in the fact that people have returned to planning long-term purchases that are made on credit, apartments, cars.Nevertheless, according to the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 46% of Russians in 2017 spent all their money on basic needs and did not save anything. Therefore, in comparison with the pre-crisis period (until 2014), the demand for clothing remains quite low, respectively, the elasticity of demand continues to be high. Clothing is included in the category of products and services on which the need to reduce spending is reflected in the first place. First of all, people save on clothes, recreation, entertainment. More than a third of the population do not consider buying clothes without discounts at all. Russians will not give up the desire to save money, they will continue to plan clothes purchases in advance, they will carefully analyze prices and refuse emotional, impulsive purchases of clothes. A significant increase in the market is not expected this year, under the most favorable conditions, a market growth of no more than 4% is possible.
