Let's grow fashion in St. Petersburg

At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, held in the northern capital on June 1-3, important statements were made by officials for the fashion industry, the press service of the Governor of St. Petersburg reports.

 

During the panel discussion, "Participation of Russian regions in the development of light industry and the formation of the fashion industry as a global network market", Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Yevtukhov said that St. Petersburg should become a trendsetter of fashion and industrial design as part of an interregional cluster with the Ivanovo region, where the production of modern designer clothing can be organized.

St. Petersburg and Ivanovo can create a kind of interregional cluster, and our ministry will help in this," Viktor Leonidovich said.

The Deputy Minister noted that the design cluster will also include training of specialists and promotion of Russian products, and in the Ivanovo region also the organization of production of modern designer clothing based on modern technologies.

 

 

The governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenkosaid that the city authorities are considering the possibility of creating a business incubator for young fashion designers, as well as a network of city showrooms where clothing manufacturers could sell their products on special conditions.

 

The head of the city said that the government has set itself an "ambitious, but quite feasible task" to win and strengthen the status of St. Petersburg as the center of the fashion industry in Russia."

 

There are all prerequisites for this, Mr. Poltavchenko believes. There are more than 2,000 fashion designers working in St. Petersburg, many of them are already known far beyond the city. In addition, there are about 450 enterprises producing clothes, shoes and accessories in St. Petersburg. 

 

 

The Governor noted that the goal of the new comprehensive program "St. Petersburg" is the center of the fashion industry and light industry"is the cooperation of the design community and production sites.

 

To implement this task, it is planned to create a business incubator and a network of showrooms. In addition, the city government plans to prepare a set of tax and financial preferences for light industry and fashion industry enterprises.
