Samsonite company summed up the financial results

Samsonite International S.A., the largest luggage manufacturing company in the world, summed up the results of work for the first half of 2017.

 

Main results:

  • Net sales of Samsonite for the six months (up to June 30, 2017 inclusive) amounted to a record $1 586.1 million, reflecting an increase in annual profit by 31.8%.
  • Excluding finances related to the brand Tumi, the group Samsonite demonstrated steady sales growth of 7.5%.
  • Net sales of Samsonite and American Tourister brands increased by 7.0% and 1.3%.
  • The brand Tumi received net income of US$ 296.9 million for the first half of 2017.

 

On May 5, 2017, Samsonite successfully completed the acquisition of the platform eBags, Inc. for $105 million. The deal significantly strengthened the position of Samsonite on the world stage and created favorable conditions for business development in the field of e-commerce, namely, provided the company with sales growth directly to the consumer.

 

In the first half of 2017, the company spent US$ 99.5 million on marketing. The amount of expenses increased by $ 33.6 million, or 51%, compared to the first half of 2016. These investments are aimed at increasing the brand awareness of the group Samsonite, which will ensure sales growth in the future.

 

The company's analytical EBITDA increased by 51.2 million US dollars, or by 26.9%. Today, EBITDA has increased to $241.5 million thanks to investments in the Tumi brand.

 

Adjusted net profit remained stable compared to the same period in 2016, despite an increase in interest expenses on the debt for the purchase of Tumi in the amount of USD 35.1 million per year.
