Hermès: Chinese buyers are saving sales

The French fashion house Hermès, known for its luxury handbags, recorded sales growth in China in the first quarter of 2024.

This was an unexpected development, as the demand for luxury goods in the world as a whole is slowing down.

The manufacturer of bags Kelly, one of the most iconic brands Hermès, demonstrated resilience against this trend, which helped the company maintain its financial performance.

Hermès International SCA demonstrated impressive results in the first quarter, recording sales growth of 17% at constant exchange rates.

This figure, which amounted to 3.8 billion euros (4.1 billion dollars), exceeded analysts' expectations.

The company's shares initially rose by 1.3% on the Paris Stock Exchange, but then retreated slightly. It is worth noting that this year the shares of Hermès have already grown by almost a quarter, overtaking competitors such as LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE and owner Gucci Kering SA.

Revenue in the Asia-Pacific market, not including Japan, jumped by 14% to 1.92 billion euros, which became one of the main factors of the company's growth.
