Will men's clothing save the market?
Good news is reported by the online publication BOF (Business of Fashion): since last year there has been a noticeable increase in the production of men's clothing.
For comparison, the volume of sales of women's clothing today is about $1.7 trillion per year. And this is not counting shoes and accessories. And the volume of men's is still not even up to a quarter of this figure. At the same time, sales of all types of "formal clothing" have significantly decreased: jackets, shirts, trousers, ties and the like.Sales of men's suits alone fell by 700 million between 2012 and 2017. But in contrast, sales of jeans of luxury brands have grown noticeably.
According to forecasts of Euromonitor, the growth of the male segment will be at least 2% per year. The reasons were the strategies of fashion brands, which are based on the involvement of young men in shopping. Most brands have simple streetwear items in their collections that are understandable to men: sneakers, hoodies, jeans that meet the needs for comfort and belonging to the suite.
Big Fashion Houses are betting on men's collections, inviting hype designers to the roles of creative directors. BALENCIAGA considers men aged 20-35 to be the main drivers of their sales. In support of this trend, Celine plans to launch a men's clothing line by the end of this year.
