New OSRAM technology will make clothes glow

The LED technology of smart illumination, developed for integration into textile products on the scale of mass production, is already being delivered to the Russian market.

The company Osram, the world's leading manufacturer of lighting systems, LEDs and sensors, has developed a new technological solution for clothing manufacturers.

Thin and elastic light guides Osram with a diameter of only 3 mm are available in various colors and configurations, they can be adjusted in length and bent without loss of light quality. The backlight is available in blue, green, amber, red and white colors from warm to cold (the color temperature range is from 2700 to 5700 Kelvin). The system is able to interact via Bluetooth with an application on a smartphone. With its help, the user can configure the LED glow mode - pulsating or continuous.

The technology significantly increases the value of the item for the consumer due not only to its attractive appearance, but also to the protective function - bright illumination makes a person noticeable at dusk, in the dark and in bad weather. The solution is relevant for designers and manufacturers of workwear, school bags, tourist equipment, bicycle and motorcycle equipment. The technological trend is already finding application in the collections of sports and fashion brands, for example, the German luxury brand Bogner or the SCOUT school bags brand.

Textile illumination modulesOSRAM Smart Textile Illumination are designed with concern for the safety of people. The integration of LED lighting into clothing and textile accessories makes it possible to equip clothing with active protection elements.  Which is significantly superior in efficiency to the reflective elements of passive protection. They only reflect light from headlights or other sources, but are not an independent light source, which significantly narrows their functionality. Whereas the LEDs turn on at the initiative of the user and attract attention from afar.
