Genuine leather, its types and features of application

part 1part 2

All layers of the skin are called genuine leather. However, according to its properties, facial skin differs significantly from split. The main difference is – ductility.

Split or split leather is a layer of leather that can only be obtained with the help of special equipment. The skin is stratified into several layers. Sometimes their number can reach up to 5 or even 6. There are splits facial, medium and mezdrov or bakhtormyan. These are the second or third layers of leather, they have a bakhtarian surface on both sides, but can be treated with coating on one side. The binary machine can set any thickness of the split.

When stratification occurs, a violation of the structure of the skin occurs, therefore splits receive a number of disadvantages. They are loose and heavy. Due to the significantly lower elongation coefficient, they are less plastic. Like the top layer of the skin, the split allows air to pass through, but quickly absorbs and accumulates water vapor.

To restore the properties of the split and expand the scope of its application, namely, for the shoe industry, it is stamped with a hot press with various additives or impregnations, creating a 100% artificial surface on one side so that it looks like leather.

There are many different technologies for applying artificial coating to sawdust. As a result, it is almost impossible to distinguish the sawdust from the skin in the finished product. After chemical treatment, skin splits are sometimes called "artificial face skin" or coated skin. The artificial coating of the split skin reduces its vapor permeability. And, if the shoes are not equipped with a membrane lining, then the foot in such shoes sweats more. The thermoplastic, polyurethane and PVC films applied to the sawdust create a dense surface with good performance. There is an English technology where the film coating is already with a membrane.

Another simple technological solution is finishing split with acrylic resins. This finish is applied on a watering machine or by spraying. After applying one or two primer layers by cutting or pressing, the effect of the front surface is created. In the end, the surface is fixed with varnish. The advantage of this finishing method is its economy. No special equipment is required for the application of acrylic resins, standard machines available at tanneries can be used.

For use in the manufacture of haberdashery, the physical and mechanical properties are not so important. And the split with a polyurethane coating and a plate "Morocco" is popular not only in bags Michale Kors, but also in products manufactured by our haberdashery factories.
