MICRO will not pass!

Chief technologist of the Moscow plant «Thermopol», one of the main experts in the field of technical textiles Elena Mezentseva, as part of the public discussion procedure, criticized the draft of the next industry GOST, which is currently being hastily created for the so-called "microfibre".

At the round table «Microfiber insulation: pros and cons», held within the framework of the international exhibition Sport Casual Moscow, Elena Mezentseva  noted that when mixing concepts such as "state standard" (GOST) and "organization standard" (TU, SRT), there may be a situation when GOST either does not meet modern market requirements, or is prescribed "under the order of a separate manufacturer with the task of further promotion of one product. And this, according to Ms. Mezentseva, undermines the credibility of standardization, discredits the scientific approach, introduces confusion into the industry environment and creates corruption prerequisites. The expert is convinced that manufacturers of workwear cannot be legally obliged to purchase a product with an increase in cost and a decrease in a number of properties.

Considering the arguments «for » and « against » microfibers, the origins of the issue, alternative opinions, Elena Mezentseva analyzed the properties, pros and cons of chemical fibers with a linear density of no more than 0.11 tex. (they are the ones that relate to microfibre). However, as the expert notes, the term "caviar" is often used not as a technological, but rather as a marketing category, and neither scientific terminology nor the international measurement system does not correspond. At the same time, such terms are unreasonably included in the drafts of national standards and GOST standards.

The expert cited research data in which it is noted that a number of indicators for materials with microfibre are deteriorating. For example, the breaking load, fire resistance, and breathability are reduced. Moreover, the rates of migration and elongation at break are increasing. At the same time, positive properties are also noted: an increase in the total thermal resistance before operation, drapery, as well as a decrease in the volume in the product package.

Representatives of the companies «The whole world», «Sivera», «Bask», «Thermoreal» took part in the controversy caused by the performance of a specialist of the plant «Thermopol».;, «Nipromtex», «Hispo», as well as state bodies (Ministry of Industry and Trade, FSB and others), educational and scientific institutions (MSU, RSU, Central Research Institute, etc.). Following the discussion, a resolution was prepared, which included the opinions of opponents and supporters of the new GOST project.
